Course Overview
This program will demonstrate a different set of music production tools, loosely following along the music production process of recording, editing, and mixing to create contemporary and electronic music on your computer.
In this program students will learn to analyze and compose in a variety of music styles, they will gain a deep understanding of many aspects of contemporary & electronic music, including beats, harmony, bass lines, groove, melodies, synthesis, audio/MIDI editing, effects processing, sound design, performance, and mixing. No matter what kind/type of music you are making, there is a large set of tools that you will need to use.

- Basics of Sound
- Basic music theory
- Synthesis and sampling
- DAW (logic, Cubase and abelton live)
- Basics of mixing and mastering
- Digital audio technology

- Effects & Dynamic Processing
- Basics of recording, editing and microphone techniques
By the end of the program, student should be able to:
- Compose and produce music in various genres using DAW
- Create exciting build ups and breaks in your music
- Compose and sequence keyboard parts
- Understand the main aspects of groove
- Build complex and layered rhythmic grooves
- Utilize complex signal flow for creative purposes
- Layer acoustic and electronic elements
- Utilize effect processors and dynamic processors in multiple contexts
- Analyze electronic music to keep up on current trends
- Synthesis the major components of electronic music
- Use automation effectively
- Utilize compressors, gates, and filters with and without side chain inputs
- Synthesis complex and evolving basses, pads, and leads
- Compose and sequence keyboard parts
- Compose and produce in various styles of electronic music, including drum and bass, trance,glitch, dub, electro, minimal, house, techno etc.
Assessment
As this is a highly technical program, students will be expected to attend multiple theory and practical sessions. At the end of the term, they will have to submit their project. On successful completion of their project they would be presented with a certificate.
